Mission Statement
The mouth is home to a complex microflora in dynamic interaction with the host immune response. Investigation of this ecosystem is at the heart of understanding the biology and disease basis of all conditions linked to oral microbes. To uncover the secrets of oral biology requires a close collaboration of microbiologists, immunologists and clinical colleagues with a major focus on the interface of microbial community dynamics, biofilm formation and mucosal immunology to understand the fundamental determinants of oral health and disease.
The aim of the Oral Microbiology and Immunology Group is to provide a high-quality but friendly forum to promote interest and research in these important areas of biology and biomedical science. We hold regular meetings of our own and arrange symposia at meetings of the British Society for Oral and Dental Research (BSODR). We communicate via the website, email and Twitter and have close associations with other research groups and actively encourage early career researchers.
